At DoorStep Dental, our mission has always been simple: to make preventative oral healthcare easier to access for the people who need it. Today, we’re happy to share a milestone that means a great deal to our team. The Ontario Chamber of Commerce has featured our story in its article, Innovating Access to Preventative Oral Healthcare, published on October 16, 2026.
For us, this recognition is about more than being featured in an article. It is an opportunity to share why we started DoorStep Dental, what we hope to achieve, and how we are working to make dental hygiene care more accessible to our communities.
When we founded DoorStep Dental in July 2024, we wanted to address a problem we had seen throughout our clinical careers as Registered Dental Hygienists. Many people value their oral health and want to maintain it, but getting to a dental office is not always easy.
We believed there was a better way. Instead of asking every patient to come to us, why not bring dental hygiene care closer to them?
That question became the starting point for DoorStep Dental, and it continues to guide the work we do today.
Why We Started DoorStep Dental
As dental hygienists, we have seen how everyday barriers can make routine oral healthcare difficult to access. For seniors, people with disabilities, individuals with limited mobility, and busy families, travelling to a dental office can take time, planning, and support.
We never wanted these challenges to stand in the way of people looking after their oral health.
Our goal was to create a service that makes professional dental hygiene care more convenient and accessible. Through our mobile dental hygiene services, we bring care directly to patients in suitable settings, helping reduce the need to travel for routine appointments.
We are especially proud of the work we do to support older adults and their families. Our mobile dental hygiene services for seniors are focused on helping address the access challenges that can come with ageing, while our senior oral care at home resource provides more information about oral care for older adults.
For us, accessibility means making care easier to reach, while treating every patient with respect and attention.
Bringing Care to Where You Live
One of the things we value most about our mobile model is the opportunity to meet patients in settings that work for them.
We work with retirement residences, home-care organizations, community groups, and healthcare providers to help bring preventative dental hygiene services closer to the people who need them.
We know that every patient’s situation is different. Some people may have difficulty with transportation. Others may have mobility challenges or need support after surgery. Our approach gives us an opportunity to address these practical concerns and discuss suitable care options with patients and their caregivers.
If you or someone in your family has difficulty travelling to a dental office, you can learn more about our services for people with mobility impairments and our house-call dental hygienist services.
We want patients and families to feel comfortable asking questions and learning about their options. Our aim is to make the process easier, from finding information to discussing an appointment.
How Technology Helps Us Care for Our Patients
Building a mobile dental hygiene practice has involved finding practical ways to deliver professional care outside a traditional clinic.
Along with specialized portable equipment, we use digital tools to support scheduling, patient records, insurance claims, and administrative tasks. These systems help us coordinate our work across different care settings and manage the details that support patient appointments.
Technology plays an important role in helping us run our practice, but the purpose behind it remains personal: to make accessing care easier for our patients.
We continue to focus on providing professional dental hygiene services while helping patients learn about their oral health needs. You can explore our oral hygiene services to learn more about the care we provide.
Why Preventative Oral Healthcare Matters to Us
We believe regular oral care deserves attention before small concerns become bigger problems. Daily brushing, cleaning between the teeth, and regular professional dental hygiene appointments can help support healthy teeth and gums.
We also know that people often have questions about oral health, especially when they notice changes or have gone some time without a cleaning.
That is why we want to make reliable information easier to find. Our resources explain the causes of oral health problems and share practical advice on how to improve oral hygiene.
For additional information, the Canadian Dental Association’s oral health resources offer guidance on caring for your teeth and gums.
We encourage our patients to ask questions, discuss their concerns with a qualified dental professional, and find a routine that suits their individual needs.
Grateful for Our Community and Business Partners
We would not be where we are today without the people and organizations who have supported our work.
Being part of the Kingston Chamber of Commerce has given us opportunities to connect with other local businesses, build relationships, and share our approach to mobile dental hygiene. We are grateful for the support and encouragement we have received from our community.
The Ontario Chamber of Commerce feature also highlights our New Business of the Year Award and our plans to reach more communities across Ontario through partnerships.
To us, these milestones reflect the value of working together. Retirement residences, caregivers, community organizations, and healthcare providers all have a role to play in helping people access appropriate care.
If your organization is interested in discussing how mobile dental hygiene services may support the people you serve, we welcome you to contact our team to discuss possible next steps.
What Comes Next for DoorStep Dental?
We are excited about what lies ahead.
Our focus remains on reaching more people, building meaningful partnerships, and making preventative dental hygiene care easier to access across Ontario. As we grow, we want to keep the same purpose that inspired us to start: helping people look after their oral health without making access more difficult than it needs to be.
We know that choosing a healthcare provider is a personal decision. We appreciate the trust patients and families place in us, and we remain committed to treating that trust with care and professionalism.
Thank You for Being Part of Our Story
