We are pleased to share that DoorStep Dental founders Qurratulain (Ainy) Kamil and Adam Beganyi, both Registered Dental Hygienists, were invited to Your Local Show on YourTV Kingston to discuss an important topic: why oral health matters to overall well-being and how mobile dental hygiene is making preventive care more accessible.
During the conversation, our founders shared insights about the connection between oral hygiene and general health, the challenges some patients face when visiting traditional dental clinics, and how DoorStep Dental brings professional dental hygiene services directly to people’s homes.
The interview also highlighted our commitment to supporting seniors, individuals with disabilities, neurodivergent patients, and busy families across Kingston and other Ontario communities.
Why Oral Health Matters Beyond Your Smile
One of the central topics of the interview was the relationship between oral health and overall health.
Ainy and Adam explained that caring for teeth and gums is about more than maintaining a beautiful smile. Oral infections and gum inflammation can affect health and become particularly important for people managing chronic medical conditions.
For example, people with diabetes may face a greater risk of gum disease, while untreated gum disease can make blood sugar management more difficult. Some medications, including certain blood pressure medications, can cause dry mouth, increasing the risk of dental problems.
Oral bacteria can also contribute to serious infections, such as infective endocarditis, in susceptible individuals with certain heart conditions, although this complication is uncommon.
These connections reinforce the value of regular preventive dental hygiene care.

Bringing Professional Dental Hygiene Care Into Patients’ Homes
Another highlight of the interview was a closer look at how DoorStep Dental delivers mobile dental hygiene services.
Rather than requiring patients to visit a dental office, our Registered Dental Hygienists travel to patients with portable professional equipment, including a dental chair, compressor, and instruments needed for preventive hygiene care.
The equipment can be set up in a suitable space within minutes, allowing patients to receive professional teeth cleanings, oral health assessments, and personalized hygiene guidance in familiar surroundings.
This approach can be particularly helpful for people who experience transportation difficulties, have limited mobility, or struggle to fit dental appointments into their schedules.

Making Dental Hygiene More Accessible for Patients With Special Needs
During the interview, Ainy and Adam also discussed the importance of adapting dental hygiene appointments to individual patient needs.
For people living with autism, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, or other conditions that affect communication and comfort, traditional dental appointments can sometimes be challenging.
DoorStep Dental focuses on patient-centred care, taking individual needs, communication preferences, sensory sensitivities, and caregiver involvement into account.
The discussion also highlighted the team’s work with One Care Inc. and Ainy’s efforts to develop additional knowledge and skills for supporting neurodivergent patients and people living with cognitive conditions.
Our goal is to make dental hygiene visits as comfortable, respectful, and accessible as possible.
Families and caregivers can explore our mobile dental hygiene services for seniors and care for people with mobility challenges.
Why Preventive Care and Regular Dental Hygiene Visits Matter
The founders also emphasized that the frequency of professional dental hygiene visits should reflect each patient’s oral health and medical needs.
While some people may maintain their oral health with appointments every six to nine months, others may benefit from more frequent care.
Patients with diabetes, gum disease, difficulty maintaining daily oral hygiene, or certain additional care needs may be advised to attend hygiene appointments approximately every three months.
The appropriate interval should always be determined through an individual assessment by a dental professional.
By making preventive care easier to access, DoorStep Dental aims to help patients maintain healthier teeth and gums and identify potential concerns before they become more serious.
Community Recognition and a Growing Commitment to Accessible Care
The interview also provided an opportunity to reflect on DoorStep Dental’s growth and the support received from the Kingston community.
Our team has been honoured with the 2026 New Business of the Year Award from the Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce and the 2026 Community Impact Award at the Startup Growth Awards.
In September 2026, Ainy was also named one of Kingston’s 2026 40 Under 40, a Kingston Economic Development Corporation recognition that celebrates young professionals for their leadership, innovation and community involvement.
These achievements encourage us to continue working toward our original mission: helping more people receive preventive oral healthcare without unnecessary barriers.
