DoorStep Dental has been featured by Kingston Spotlight, an independent local publication that shares stories about the people, businesses, and community of Kingston.
The feature, published on September 18, 2026, tells the story behind our mobile dental hygiene practice: why we started it, and how we are working to make preventative oral healthcare more accessible across Kingston and Eastern Ontario.
When we started DoorStep Dental, our goal was simple: to help people receive professional dental hygiene care without the added difficulty of travelling to a traditional dental office. We thank our patients, families, community partners, and everyone who has supported us.

Why We Bring Dental Hygiene Care to You
As Registered Dental Hygienists, we have seen how difficult it can be for some people to attend routine dental hygiene appointments. The challenge is not always a lack of interest in oral health. Often, getting to the appointment is the biggest obstacle.
For seniors who no longer drive, people who use walkers or wheelchairs, residents of retirement homes, and busy working families, getting to a dental office can take time, planning, and support. We wanted to offer another option.
Through our mobile dental hygiene services, we bring professional dental hygiene care to patients in suitable settings, including homes, retirement residences, and workplaces where arrangements have been made.
Making Oral Healthcare Easier for Seniors and People with Mobility Challenges
A large part of our work is helping people who face physical or practical barriers to attending appointments. Arranging transportation, finding assistance, or leaving home can be difficult for some patients. Mobile dental hygiene offers an alternative that can reduce these challenges.
We support older adults through our mobile dental hygiene services for seniors and our senior oral care at home resources.
We also welcome conversations with families and caregivers looking for options for someone who has difficulty travelling. Our information on mobile dental hygiene for people with mobility impairments explains more about this approach to care. Every patient has different needs, and we discuss suitable care options based on their circumstances.
What Happens During a Mobile Dental Hygiene Appointment?
We bring the necessary portable equipment and supplies to the agreed location and set up a suitable treatment area.
Depending on the patient’s needs, an appointment may include an assessment of the teeth and gums, professional cleaning, and fluoride treatment. We also share oral hygiene guidance and explain any concerns that may need further attention.
Our role is to provide dental hygiene care, not dental procedures such as fillings, extractions, or crowns. If we identify an issue that requires a dentist, we explain the concern and help direct the patient to appropriate dental care. You can learn more on our oral hygiene services page.
We also offer appointments outside standard working hours, including evenings and weekends, subject to availability. This helps people whose work or family commitments make regular clinic hours difficult.
Two Registered Dental Hygienists, One Shared Mission
DoorStep Dental was founded on July 8, 2024, by Qurratulain Kamil and Adam Beganyi, both Registered Dental Hygienists.
The idea grew from a shared belief that access to preventative oral healthcare should not depend on a person’s ability to travel. Building the practice meant rethinking how care is delivered, investing in portable equipment, and finding practical ways to bring appointments to people in different settings.
Personal comfort matters during healthcare visits. With two clinicians on our team, patients can discuss their preferences when arranging an appointment, subject to availability. We provide care with respect, patience, and consideration for each patient’s needs.
Recognition That Encourages Us to Keep Growing
Being featured by Kingston Spotlight gives us an opportunity to share the reason behind our work.
DoorStep Dental also received the 2026 Kingston Business Award for New Business of the Year. In addition, Qurratulain Kamil was included in Kingston Economic Development Corporation’s 2026 Young Professionals 40 Under 40 list and was nominated for the Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce’s first Pinnacle Award, as reported by Kingston Spotlight.
These milestones support the goal that brought us here: helping more people access preventative dental hygiene care. We are grateful to the local business community, organizations, and individuals who have supported our growth.
Working with Community Organizations to Reach More People
Community partnerships can make healthcare services more accessible to people who might otherwise face barriers. We work with retirement residences, caregivers, healthcare providers, employers, and community organizations.
We have also partnered with the St. Lawrence Youth Association to help bring care to young people and families connected with the organization.

Helping You Maintain Your Oral Health
Regular brushing, cleaning between the teeth, and professional dental hygiene visits help support healthy teeth and gums. Learning about common oral health concerns can also help people make informed choices about their care.

For patients looking into dental coverage, we provide information about Canadian Dental Care Plan dental care providers. Eligibility and coverage depend on the program’s rules and the services covered for each patient.
